Attributing the 2015/2016 Amazon basin drought to anthropogenic influence

چکیده

Droughts in the Amazon region have potential to generate severe socio-environmental impacts addition having ability interfere with long-term carbon cycle, thus affecting global climate. The 2015/2016 drought that occurred this region, associated an El Niño, was considered a record-breaking event terms of unprecedented warming and largest extent affected areas. Anthropogenic influence on probability intensity assessed using two ensembles Met Office's HadGEM3-GA6 model. One ensemble driven only natural forcings other also included anthropogenic forcings. This analysis found likely increased due influence. reliability model represent precipitation study area by comparing it Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation Station data (CHIRPS) product (R2 = 0.81). Results indicate altered risk about four times confidence interval ranging from 2.7 4.7. We conclude emissions threaten functioning forest likelihood extreme droughts.

Drought sensitivity of the Amazon rainforest.

Amazon forests are a key but poorly understood component of the global carbon cycle. If, as anticipated, they dry this century, they might accelerate climate change through carbon losses and changed surface energy balances. We used records from multiple long-term monitoring plots across Amazonia to assess forest responses to the intense 2005 drought, a possible analog of future events. Affected...

Attributing the probability of South African weather extremes to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions: Spatial characteristics

Recent studies have examined the role of anthropogenic emissions in the probability of extreme weather events. These studies examine an event aggregated over a spatial domain, but the dependence on domain definition is unknown. Here we investigate this dependence for the frequency of daily weather extremes across South Africa using a climate model run under both a real-world and a nongreenhouse...

Rickettsial Disease in the Peruvian Amazon Basin

Using a large, passive, clinic-based surveillance program in Iquitos, Peru, we characterized the prevalence of rickettsial infections among undifferentiated febrile cases and obtained evidence of pathogen transmission in potential domestic reservoir contacts and their ectoparasites. Blood specimens from humans and animals were assayed for spotted fever group rickettsiae (SFGR) and typhus group ...

Contribution of anthropogenic warming to California drought during 2012–2014

A suite of climate data sets andmultiple representations of atmosphericmoisture demand are used to calculate many estimates of the self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index, a proxy for near-surface soil moisture, across California from 1901 to 2014 at high spatial resolution. Based on the ensemble of calculations, California drought conditions were record breaking in 2014, but probably not...

Nitrogen cycle and ecosystem services in the Brazilian La Plata Basin: anthropogenic influence and climate change.

The increasing human demand for food, raw material and energy has radically modified both the landscape and biogeochemical cycles in many river basins in the world. The interference of human activities on the Biosphere is so significant that it has doubled the amount of reactive nitrogen due to industrial fertiliser production (Haber-Bosch), fossil fuel burning and land-use change over the last...
